Caylin de Reuck
Year born: 1991
Hometown: Cape Town
Nickname: Caylin
Local Spot: Melkbos
Favourite spots: Farmer Burgers, Scotties
Style: Goofy
Brought up in the small beach town of Melkbos, Caylin only started riding waves in her first year at High School, but the bug bit really hard and by the end of it she was a committed day in and day out surfer girl - another one of the pack that crowd her local Tube Wave and Corner.
A natural goofy footer with a big heart (and smile) Caylin will happily tackle anything the ocean decides to throw at her on any given day.
She has developed into a committed athlete with a determined view towards her contest and free surfing, and has a clear picture that surfing will play a big part in her future.

I started surfing at age 16 in Richards bay (my home town). Could hardly stand and started entering contests. It took me till 2001 to win my first SA Champs in East London. I would say that has been one of my highlights as I had never even reached a final until that contest. My career progressed to winning 4 back to back SA titles, and then a year gap with the 5th and last one in 2005. I've represented SA in 2 world games both times reaching the semi finals. I've won the asp Africa ladies title 5yrs in a row. I've traveled a lot to surf WQS events but never had the budget to do a full year.
Another highlight, would be reaching the semi finals of the Mr. Price Pro, 2005. I always said if I reached the final, I would commit to going on the WQS full time. Unfortunately that never progressed.
I moved to Durban in 1998, and I felt with the help of Graham Heynes, the spider team and JJ (my husband), I grew stronger each year.
I enjoy surfing with my mates (we call and protect our local spot the "chillies") and hope to one day surf with Tyla (my daughter). My best trip was when I went on a two week boat trip to the Mentawis islands. It was all the chillies and we had waves from 4-8ft every day. It really tested my ability.
I would say I prefer the 4-6ft warm water range, rather than getting "wet suited out" and braving the cold. I dislike telling people about my achievements, and prefer to let my surfing do the talking. I would say I'm not part of the new school of airs and 360's but rather barrels and basic re-entries...real old school!!
When I'm not surfing I'm walking my dogs and mountain biking, and oh yes babysitting now!! I'm a self confessed "chocoholic", who enjoys hanging with family and friends.
I've been working at safari surf shop for 7 years, and I'm involved in sales and team riders. I have no inspiration to shape my own board, as I cannot draw a straight line with a ruler...so I guess there is no future for me there.
